SOUL - SELF ORGANIZED UNDERSTANDING AND LEARNING
is a completely new program series, developed by Aurelia eV, which comes into play as part of the ars vivendi funding project.
SOUL is a methodical further development of the well-known SOL concept. Self-organized learning / SOL processes pedagogical challenges such as ChatGPT or copy-and-paste and generates methodological competence from them. The requirement for distance learning becomes an opportunity for self-direction. A learning arrangement in which autonomous learning is possible and in which individual and cooperative learning alternate (sandwich phases) also supports the option of inclusive offers.
The basic principle of a division of labor process in which every learner and every learning team is jointly responsible for the creation of a project result strengthens a sense of responsibility, self-efficacy and presentation skills. Our didactic concept complements the SOL principle with the term UNDERSTANDING. This means both “understanding” and “understanding”. We define understanding as understanding the content of a matter. Understanding always occurs in a specific context. ars vivendi provides the SDGs as a context, because in this context the learners should develop the ability to act - that is the learning goal. In addition, understanding is always individually shaped - e.g. by cultural origin, existing knowledge or personality structure. SOUL utilizes any existing diversity in learning groups. The problem of internal differentiation becomes a creative opportunity. We see the advance organizer known from SOL, which is presented at the beginning of the project as a “learning map” to provide an overview of the topics to be covered, as a selection offer. SOUL first asks the question "Under what aspect do you want to deal with the topic?". The aspects offered are based on the school subjects (biology, language, math, etc.) and the SDGs. Both analogue as well as digital and practical working methods are used. This creates an interdisciplinary short project which summarizes the content and is then presented with a team work fact check. Teachers and multipliers come across the learning materials we provide the SOUL learning processes and, as learning coaches, occasionally offer inspiration or advice. SOUL offers input on exciting facts and impulses for an appreciative learning culture in which specialist knowledge is acquired and social and methodological skills are trained. On this stable basis, the complex question of how sustainable development can be designed globally, regionally and individually can be answered creatively and action-oriented. Extracurricular learning locations, project days and school trips are the perfect environment to get started in SOUL learning arrangements.
